The Best Book Series to Binge Read

In a world of streaming, we are impatient. I know that I tend to go for the shows that are already available in full (or at least full seasons) online. Book series are the same way. If I have to keep up with a series as the books come out (which I have done twice recently), it stresses me out. Thus, finding those book series to binge read is a GAME CHANGER. These are my favorites, in no particular order.

The Mirror Visitor by Christelle Dabos

This is one of the series that I found and read as the books were coming out. The first three were published, and I had to wait for the grand finale. The first book, A Winter’s Promise, came in my Page One Books subscription box one month. I added it to my shelf, and moved on.

I am not sure why I picked it up (my book jar probably told me to read it), but it changed my life. It was so good that I had to have all of the other books. The level of world building is just phenomenal. Talk about a true escape from the world. I can’t recommend it enough.

Shades of Magic by V.E. Schwab

The first book in this trilogy was selected for our monthly book club pick at work. We all loved the first book that the second book was the clear choice for the next month. Unfortunately, we all had to read the third and final book on our own.

This is another series with incredible world building (literally, multiple worlds). I fell in love with the characters, AND the second book ended with a cliffhanger. That is a book series you have to binge read!

The 100 by Kass Morgan

This is a very easy book series to binge read. If you’re a fan of the show, however, know that the books are VERY different. If you’re a fan of dystopia and/or the end of the world, it’s a great series.

It’s more sci-fi, and young adult (but without too much sex). There are quite a few characters, so the story feels like it moves very quickly as you switch between perspectives.

Daevabad Trilogy by S.A. Chakraborty

I believe the first book in this series, The City of Brass, was one that came to me in a subscription box. I put off reading it for a while. I don’t tend to read too much set in that area of the world (Northern Africa and/or the Middle East), and the book was DENSE. However, it was so worth it. The whole trilogy.

There’s a little bit of magic and some history and incredible world building. There is a strong female protagonist and a little bit of love, but not in an overtly romantic way. It’s the best of all of my favorite things in one trilogy.

Inkworld Trilogy by Cornelia Funke

I was an adult when I found out that there was more than just Inkheart. There were two whole books in the same world that I had yet to read. What a world!

This is a book series in which the characters (some of them, at least) are able to read book characters to life, or read themselves directly into a story. How many times have we all wanted to truly step inside our favorite book and get lost in those pages?

I Am Number Four by Pittacus Lore

If you caught my review about the Legacies Reborn trilogy, you’ll know that I’m a sucker for weird YA sci-fi fantasy. It is because of the I Am Number Four series. I have no idea how I ended up starting the series, but it’s all sorts of badassery and powers and all the cool things.

Now, there are quite a few books in the initial series, and they get a little bit redundant when you get to all the battle scenes, but it’s still super cool. These are high school-age kids saving the world, and it makes you feel like you could save the world too.

Shadow & Bone by Leigh Bardugo

I am always a big fan of reading a book before I see the movie or watch the show. When I saw that Ben Barnes was going to be a part of the new Shadow & Bone series on Netflix, I knew it was time to read the books.

Now, I read the whole shebang. The first trilogy, and the subsequent two duologies. However, I do believe the first three books are the best. They’re collectively the shortest, do a great job of building the Grisha world, and you don’t have too many different perspectives going on.

If you’re feeling particularly ambitious, the ENTIRE series is definitely something to binge read.

…and, of course…

Harry Potter

I grew up with Harry Potter, which I think is a part of why I love it so much. The characters grew up with me, and I would find solace between those pages.

This was a series of books I pre-ordered (from book 5+). I would shut myself in my room and read the book in a day. Luckily, they all came out during the summer, so I didn’t even have to take a break to go to school.

The series is published in its entirety, and I do believe it’s something every child growing up should read. It’s a world of magic. What’s better than that?
