Don’t Open Your Eyes by Liv Constantine

You may recognize Liv Constantine from The Last Mrs. Parrish and The Next Mrs. Parrish. Apparently there’s also a prequel or something to those coming out too? Anyway, when I had the opportunity to request Don’t Open Your Eyes from NetGalley, I jumped on it.

The Story

In this twisted psychological thriller from the New York Times bestselling author of the Reese’s Book Club Pick The Last Mrs. Parrish, a woman is tormented by nightmarish visions of her future—and then they start to come true.

Annabelle has everything she’s ever wanted. A devoted husband, two wonderful daughters, and a career she loves. She couldn’t be happier. So why is she suddenly plagued by disturbing dreams of a future where she hates her husband and her daughters’ lives are at risk? At first, she chalks the dreams up to an overactive imagination. But when details from her dreams, details she couldn’t possibly have predicted, begin to materialize, she realizes these aren’t just dreams but rather premonitions of a terrifying future. They all point to a singular choice, an unknown moment that holds Annabelle’s life in the balance.

Then Annabelle has a dream that her daughter, Scarlett, is in immediate danger. Someone wants Scarlett dead and Annabelle has no idea who or why. Suddenly, every choice she makes is fraught with peril, with no inkling of which move could bring this terrifying vision to life. As her present life starts to collide with the future in her dreams, she wrestles with how much control she really has over her destiny and whether or not she can change what is meant to be.

My Thoughts

For starters, I think a much smarter title would have been “Don’t Close Your Eyes”. I mean, the woman is slightly terrified of the visions she’s getting when she sleeps, so wouldn’t it be a concern about CLOSING your eyes and getting more visions?

Beyond me wanting to call the book a different name, I really enjoyed it! I don’t know what it was specifically, but I just could not put it down. I read it on my Kindle, so I read 40%+ in one night (and stayed up way too late past my bedtime).

At times, it felt a little gaslight-y, but it didn’t detract from the story. It moved quick enough to the next possible point of conflict. There was one bit that had me thinking, “Why is this in the story?” but it all came together in the end. Just don’t try to figure things out too hard!

The ending absolutely took me by surprise, and it will be joining the list of my favorite plot twists. You absolutely thought it was going one way, and then BAM!

Don’t Open Your Eyes was super well paced and just kept me engaged from start to finish. I think I finished it in just a few days, which is pretty quick for me (I only read my Kindle books in bed before I go to sleep). I would highly recommend it. It would make the perfect vacation read or poolside read this summer.

@downthebookjar It’s been a minute since I couldn’t put a book down. Don’t Open Your Eyes is set to publish June 17, 2025! 📚 Yes, I got the title wrong. But homegirl was nervous for her dreams, so me thinking it was “don’t close your eyes” made sense in my head. It’s hard to remember titles when I read on my kindle! 😂 #booktok #readmorebooks #arc #advancedreadercopy #dontopenyoureyes #netgalley #booksof2025 @NetGalley ♬ original sound – Down the Book Jar 📚
